Why Does God Allow Satan to Tempt People?
Q: Why does God allow Satan to tempt people?
In a court of law, an accuser (prosecutor) has the legal right to question the accused in an attempt to prove their case. Satan is the accuser, he brings temptations to prove his point. For example, the trials and temptations that befell Job were all arranged by Satan to prove a point, to make a case—a case that Job was worshipping God only because of what he benefits from God, Job 1:11, Luke 22:31-34, Revelation 12:10.
Another ground for temptation happens when Satan finds something of his in you. When this is the case, Satan is not primarily concerned about proving a point, but his primary concern is to make you fall, to steal, kill and destroy. When Satan finds in you the things of this world (which he runs), things like sin, fear, rebellion, lust, worldliness, ungodly desire, etc., you have given him permission to tempt you and God will not stop him. God will only forewarn you, make people pray and intercede for you, and make a way of escape for you, John 14:30, 1 Corinthians 10:12-13.
Other reasons include to reveal your weaknesses, teach you warfare and make you strong, Judges 3:1-2, 1 Corinthians 10:13, Proverbs 24:10, Ephesians 6:10-18; to strengthen your faith and produce perseverance, praise and glory, James 1:2-4, 1 Peter 1:6-7.
