Where is Satan First Mentioned in the Bible?

Q: Where is Satan first mentioned in the Bible?

The first mention of the name or title “Satan” in the Bible is in 1 Chron 21:1 where he stood up to “oppose” the nation of Israel. And he is probably called Satan there because of what he stood up to do—to oppose Israel. That’s the meaning of the name Satan—the adversary, opposer, accuser, enemy.

It is good to note that this wasn’t his first appearance. His first appearance was in the Garden of Eden as the serpent. Again, he must have come as a serpent because of his intention to deceive and steal man’s dominion with the wisdom and subtlety of the serpent.
